The following generally applies for fire prevention: Companies are obliged to obtain the regulations on their own and to incorporate them in their planning accordingly. The most important legal regulations relating to fire prevention include:

  • the industrial safety ordinance,
  • explosion protection documents for hazardous areas,
  • the workplace ordinance
  • and regional building regulations.

Requirements of the fire brigade and fire insurance

For every construction project, specialist planners and architects must obtain information from the responsible fire insurance companies regarding the applicable regulations and requirements for fire prevention. This means that fires and operational interruptions as a result of fire can be covered by different insurance companies. The regulations to be observed in the fire prevention concept also depend on whether the insurer adheres to the suggestions of the German Insurance Association (GDV) or has issued their own regulations. Only if all regulations laid out in the code are observed can a settlement take place in the event of damage.
